Jerry was born and raised in the State of Iowa. He graduated from The University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science in 1984. Jerry has been employed in the financial services industry since 1986 and directly managing investment portfolios and providing financial planning services since 1990. Jerry established Piedmont Wealth Management in 2013 as it afforded the opportunity to offer a broad array of products and services to the financial planning families that he serves. He is currently the managing partner of the practice.
As the senior member of the team, Jerry is often asked by new and existing clients about his intention to retire from the business. His answer is simple – he enjoys working with his clients and plans to stay active in the business for as long as his health allows.
Throughout his more than 30 years in the financial services industry, Jerry has strived to increase his education and knowledge base by earning the following designations:
- CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®), the reputable standard in the practice for Financial Planning.
- CHARTERED FINANCIAL CONSULTANT (ChFC®), a mark of excellence for financial planners for almost thirty years and currently requires more courses than any other financial planning credential.
- CHARTERED LIFE UNDERWRITER (CLU®), the highest-level designation available in the life insurance profession.
Interests:
- Family—married since 1983 to his college sweetheart (Juli). They have two children, Nicholas (wife, Kelsey) and Katie, mother of his 2 grandchildren, Jacob and Jennie. Much of life revolves around family activities including building a second home as a family project. The second home is located on Leesville Lake, a 2-hour drive from Charlottesville, VA. Jerry and Juli typically split their time between their Lake home and Charlottesville.

- Sports fan, especially baseball—Go Cubs, UVA Baseball, and any sport for the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Community participation:
- Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, Inc.—Founder of the 501(c)(3). Began as an outreach ministry of First United Methodist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2002. Later (2011) developed into a stand-alone non-profit—Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry. In addition to being the founder in 2002, Jerry has been a Board member from its inception as a non-profit in 2011. He has served as past Chairman of the Board and on numerous committees including a member and past Chair of the Development Committee, a member of the Executive Committee, and a member of other committees for the organization. Jerry’s current participation with this charity is limited to being a Board Director Emeritus.
- Member of First United Methodist Church—Jerry became active at FUMC when he moved to Charlottesville in 1999.
- Condo Associations and Homeowner Association Participation and Management—Jerry has been active in numerous HOA and Condo Associations over the past decades, frequently serving in Board positions including President of several associations. He is quite versed in HOA and Condo management as it applies to Virginia law due to this experience.
