Recently, a friend of mine experienced his father-in-law getting scammed out of part of his retirement savings. I wanted to take the opportunity to share this real-life scenario with you: He got a phone call from someone claiming to be from his investment company and stating that there had been fraud on his cryptocurrency account. They convinced him to open a new account and transfer his funds into the new account. When he did so, he lost the entire “transferred” balance from that account. You might receive phone calls from individuals claiming to represent a company or an organization, asking for your personal information. This is a common method used by fraudsters. It's essential never to disclose the following information over the phone from an unsolicited phone call:
If you suspect a fraudulent call, hang up immediately. If you are unsure or want to verify your account is in good standing, hang up and call the customer care phone line for the institution they claimed to be from. If there is a problem, someone from the company can help you. For accounts held through our firm, you can also call our office to verify you’re in good standing and discuss any questions you have. We want you all to stay safe and secure. Hopefully this information is helpful to you (feel free to forward this to family and friends). |
Don't get scammed out of your retirement!
