As a Managing Director, I draw on 18 years of experience as a financial representative, partner, and sales leader to develop the individuals I choose to bring onto our team.
But before we talk about business, let me tell you a little about who I am. I am blessed to share my life with my wife, Lori, and our six children, Shelby, Riley, Abby, Gabby, Cruz, and Alex. Family is everything to me, and that sense of loyalty, commitment, and teamwork that comes with raising a big family spills into everything I do professionally.
And I’ll be honest, this family can flat out compete. Four of our six children earned Division I athletic scholarships. Our son Shelby was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2018 and went on to play professionally for eight years, a career his very average D2 baseball-playing father could only dream of. Our daughter Gabby made history at the University of Nevada, earning the 2024 Mountain West Co-Player of the Year in softball and the first conference Player of the Year honor in Nevada Softball history. In her second season with the Wolf Pack, she hit .392 with a school-record 17 home runs while driving in 65 runs — numbers that make it clear the athletic talent in this family did not come from my side of the gene pool. Cruz and Alex have also earned their D1 opportunities, and we couldn’t be more proud of every single one of them.
And speaking of new chapters, Lori and I just found out we are about to become first-time grandparents! Shelby and his wife Kaitlin are expecting their first child, and let’s just say the excitement in our house is at an all-time high.
I was also fortunate enough to wear a Cal Poly Mustangs uniform as a, let’s be honest, very average baseball player on the 1993 Cal Poly SLO squad. That team made it all the way to the Division II College World Series as national runner-up, and while I can’t claim I was the reason we got there, I can tell you that being part of a team that competed at that level taught me things about preparation, accountability, and the pursuit of excellence that I carry with me to this day.
Throughout my career, I’ve welcomed people from all walks of life — seasoned professionals making a lateral move, individuals leaving a previous career to pursue something more meaningful, and recent college graduates stepping into their first true career. We embrace this diversity in backgrounds because it keeps us fresh and challenges us to stay ahead of the ever-changing landscape of the financial services industry.
My passion for development doesn’t stop at the office. For over 30 years, I’ve coached youth sports from recreational leagues to competitive travel teams and high school athletics. That experience has given me a unique insight into the human psyche and the ability to motivate, educate, and develop people at different paces and levels of commitment.
