There are days in your life that you remember vividly and other days you couldn't piece together if someone told you every detail.
On Sunday January 18th, 2026 the trajectory of my life changed forever.
January in Georgia can either mean 36 degrees, windy, cold, rainy or 65 and sunny. That day it was the former, but a beautiful, sunny day. I was at the farm that morning doing the normal chores - feeding cows, getting hay put out, feeding chickens, collecting eggs, making sure water lines aren't frozen, all the fun stuff. I had a flag football game that afternoon and I remember thinking to myself, "ah I don't know if I'll go today" as I had a lot of things to get done at the farm still - fence work, rebuilding the corral, regular maintenance on the side by side, etc. But I didn't want to bail on my team at the last minute so I went.
I get there for the game, and it's cold, windy, not terribly fun to be playing football in and it appeared other people had the same idea of bailing, so we barely had enough to field a team, but it also wasn't uncommon for a lot of us to play both ways
